Thanks to everyone who came out to the packed theater at Connecticut College for our screening of A Wheel out of Kilter last night! We were joined by Kyle Clark (composer and assistant editor) for an hour long Q&A after the film. Faculty, staff, students, friends, family, and even the President of the College and her husband were in attendance. It was an awesome night - thanks for coming out!
After Morin's moving lecture on the making of A Wheel out of Kilter (screening tonight at 7:00pm!), Herbertz led a three-hour cinematography workshop for Film Studies students at Connecticut College.
Everyone from first year students with no experience, to seniors who'd been through the curriculum, to alums who were working in the field were there. Today Deadpoint was accepted to its first film festival! The Princeton Independent Film Festival will be screening our film on September 30, 2016. We are thrilled to be returning to Princeton, the first festival to accept A Wheel out of Kilter last year. Thanks, Sara, and the rest of the Prindiefest team!
Our newest film is complete! This weekend Ross submitted A Peculiar Thud to Damnationland and they confirmed its receipt. What a joy it has been making this film together. Our editor, Brian Newell, did an absolutely outstanding job cutting the film. It could not have been done without him, and it would not have been as good a film without him. Thanks to our friend, Brian!
Meanwhile, Damnationland's promotion work is getting up and running. Check out the pictures, interviews, etc on their site. Damnationland. Below, Morin wields the machete from the film amidst the other Damnationland filmmakers.
Over the past month Matthew Herbertz's short film A Man of God has been accepted to three more festivals around the world. The Southway Independent Film festival in Ukraine, the Sydney Independent Film Festival in Australia, and the prestigious Catalina Film Festival on Catalina Island outside of Los Angeles! For more information please check out the website at: thepriestmovie.com.
For more information on the amazing Catalina Film Festival visit their website here: http://catalinafilm.org/ Kiltered Productions had a blast this week in Las Vegas at the 70th annual UFVA conference. Above - we take a coffee break with a stylized selfie. We presented papers as parts of panels. Ross presented his paper, "Teaching Racist, Sexist Student Films in the Production Classroom: Fighting Fire with Fire, and Matthew presented his talk, "Modern Rural Horror and Male Anxiety: The Fear of Losing Power" throughout the week. And we reunited with our filmmaker friends like Lucas Ostrowski, Thomas Castillo, Stephen Crompton, and Joe Kraemer. We even got to spend an evening with Jack Sholder, director of A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 (the most interesting of all the series), The Hidden (the best Kyle MacLachlan alien film since Dune), and Alone in the Dark (the scariest Jack Palance and Martin Landau teamup that Tim Burton never dreamt). Overall, a fine week. Looking forward to next year!
Ross and Matt have traveled to Las Vegas for the 2016 University Film and Video Association conference and will be meeting other filmmakers and academics, networking with other production companies, and sharing their work with their colleagues and friends from across the country.
Today, Aug 1, we will be screening A Wheel out of Kilter in Screening 3A at 2:30pm. On Aug 2, Ross will be delivering his paper, "Teaching Racist, Sexist Student Films in the Production Classroom: Fighting Fire With Fire" in Panel 5G at 9:30am. On Aug 3, we will be screening A Man of God in Screening 9B at 9:30am. On Aug 4, Matt will be delivering his paper, "Modern Rural Horror and Male Anxiety: The Fear of Losing Power" in Panel 13G at 9:30am. At about 4:30am on Sunday July 17, we wrapped shooting A Peculiar Thud! It was an incredible experience and yielded footage that has left us all breathless. Ross Morin delved deep into the characters' psyches as he directed his poetic horror script for the screen. Matt Herbertz led a cinematography team to reproduce the feel of darkness on a moonlit night - and the fear that someone could be lurking in any of the shadows. Malcolm Mills' performance as the lead was absolutely haunting . We're headed into post and looking forward to the premiere at the State Theater in Portland, Maine on October 14. Hope to see you there! A Man of God will be a part of the 2016 Middle Coast Film Festival in Bloomington Indiana! Matthew Herbertz will be in attendance. The festival is July 28th-30th!
