Damnationland has conducted an unconventional and fascinating interview with me about A Peculiar Thud. Check out the link below to hear some of my thoughts on the film and see some behind the scenes footage!
A Peculiar Cut is officially done! And just in time. Damnationland has just launched its promotional materials. Here I am wielding the machete from the film with the other Damnationland filmmakers. I'm so thankful to Brian Newell for his editing of this film. As always his work was meticulous and efficient.
The premiere is just a month away - more details soon. At about 4:30am on Sunday July 17, we wrapped shooting A Peculiar Thud! It was an incredible experience and yielded footage that has left me breathless. Matt Herbertz led a cinematography team to reproduce the feel of darkness on a moonlit night - and the fear that someone could be lurking in any of the shadows. Malcolm Mills' performance as the lead was absolutely outstanding. The entire production was a well-oiled and efficient machine. I've been making films for 20 years now; this was likely the best production I've ever run. Clockwise from left: Lindsay Sirois (Sound), Gregg Hammond (Catering), RJ Wilson (Grip, Damnationland Producer), Malcolm Mills (lead actor), Tom Digges (Assistant Camera), Kyle Clark (Gaffer), Matt Herbertz (Director of Photography, Producer), Ross Morin (Writer, Director, Producer), Stuart Vyse (Assistant Director)
A few pictures below will give you a taste of what the film will look and feel like - they are just a mere hint of the actual quality of the cinematography. They have not been color corrected or touched up but I'm including them so that you can get as excited as we all are. I'm so proud of my team. - Ross We are thrilled to announce the star of A Peculiar Thud will be the incredibly talented Malcolm Mills! We looked at hundreds of submissions for this role and Malcolm just blew us away with his presence. You can read more about him on his website: http://malcolmmills.com. Malcolm Mills is a NYC actor known for playing villains, goofs, and losers in film & VR. He stars in the first 360-virtual-reality feature, Career Opportunities in Organized Crime (SXSW ’16), as a good-to-evil programmer. He can be seen on Netflix as Kate Flannery’s (The Office) comedic henchman in Tenured (Tribeca ’15); upcoming features include Virgin Forest, Serious Laundry, The Spine of Night, and Shelter for the Bloodstained Soul.
Raised in Maine and Los Angeles, he graduated NYU-Tisch with a BFA in drama, training with the Atlantic Acting School & the Stonestreet Film & TV studios. His favorite theatrical roles include Dracula in Ghost of Dracula (NYC Fringe), Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream (NYU-Atlantic), the psycho mother in Psycho Beach Party (Pipeline), and the Kevin Bacon role in his high-school’s production of Footloose. He also writes noise-pop music and horror-comedy plays; his work's been staged in NYC with such companies as Pipeline, Theater for the New City, Fresh Ground Pepper, and Insomnium. We did it, folks! Thanks to the generous donation of friends, family, and film lovers around the world, we beat our baseline goal of $3,000 in three days, our stretch goal of $4,000 in a week and a half, and we ended with $4,600 at the close of the campaign this morning! 52 backers contributed to the project and we are so thankful for all they've given us. Thanks for the donations, the shares, the phone calls, emails and pats on the back.
We are moving onward and upward. The shoot begins in three weeks! More updates to come! We've sent out a casting call across southern CT and into NYC and after just a day we've already received nearly 100 responses. We'll be looking through them and the rest of the incoming files throughout the week. Going to be a big week!
